To understand the present you need to know

the history

The Swedish Peter Cassel Society started in 1993 with the purpose to draw attention to and highlight

the mass emigration from Sweden to North America in the second half of the 19th century and well into the 20th century, but also the migration of today.

People have always migrated throughout history and this has led to big changes.

In 1845 a group of 21 persons from Kisa in Östergötland emigrated under leadership of the miller and farmer  Peter Cassel. After a long journey full of hardship they settled in New Sweden, Iowa.
